Who qualifies to be an Apprentice?
Available for Barber, Cosmetology and Hairstylist programs as a federally registered Apprenticeship program. The apprentice becomes a salon employee and earns hours towards the program completion in both Salon and School. Prospective students should be at least 17 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. Extern/Apprenticeship requires both attendance in school and attendance in the salon to earn credits concurrently.
Do I receive school credit while I work?
Yes! For every hour worked and each service completed, you will receive credit toward graduation at school.

What does my salon need to bring in Apprenticeships or Externs?
Salon Registration with DORA, At least one person on site with an active practitioner's license for at least 2 working years, and a drive to share skills in the next generation of practitioners.
Apprenticeships are paid employee positions, and shall be compensated with, at least, the minimum wage rate in your county. Monthly assessment of the Apprentice including verification of services hours provided and grading students on their participation and service quality.
How do Externs/Apprentices get experience in the salon?
By making your Extern or Apprentice an integral part of the salon environment, you will be able to provide the most relevant experience for our students. After achieving prerequisite hours for license type, students should be participating in salon services as often as possible to achieve maximum experience and confidence in their new career. Focus should be on learning and improving techniques to provide the best possible client experience, while assisting the day-to-day operation of the salon and its appointments. Academy of Cosmetology Arts will provide all necessary training materials upon request.
